sermonette: Old Age

Barzillai, Man of Iron
Martin G. Collins
Given 21-Feb-09; Tape #924s; 18 minutes

Description: (hide)

Martin Collins, reflecting on the topic of old age, focuses on the Barzillai, an aged man from Gilead, who bravely risked his life to offer King David help in his exile, demonstrating unfailing loyalty. Barzillai offered his wealth and resources protecting David from the wrath of Absalom. At 80 years old, he still lived up to his name, meaning "man of iron." Like Barzillai, we must also demonstrate character, bearing fruit. If we stay connected to the vine (Jesus Christ), we can bear fruit well into our mature years, ending our life in integrity and humility.
