And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

And her [promised] husband Joseph, being a just {and} upright man and not willing to expose her publicly {and} to shame {and} disgrace her, decided to repudiate {and} dismiss (divorce) her quietly {and} secretly.

Darby English Version
But Joseph, her husband, being [a] righteous [man], and unwilling to expose her publicly, purposed to have put her away secretly;

International Standard Version
Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to disgrace her, decided to divorce her secretly.

King James Version
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

Young's Literal Translation
and Joseph her husband being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, did wish privately to send her away.
