Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Now these things are examples (warnings and admonitions) for us not to desire {or} crave {or} covet {or} lust after evil {and} carnal things as they did.

But these things happened [as] types of us, that we should not be lusters after evil things, as they also lusted.

Now these things became examples for us so that we won't set our hearts on evil as they did.

and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these did desire.
