But the scriptures shut up all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

But the Scriptures [picture all mankind as sinners] shut up {and} imprisoned by sin, so that [the inheritance, blessing] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him].

but the scripture has shut up all things under sin, that the promise, on the principle of faith of Jesus Christ, should be given to those that believe.

But the Scripture has put everything under the power of sin, so that what was promised by the faithfulness of Christ might be given to those who believe.

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
