People's Commentary (NT)
Galatians 5:6
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor
uncircumcision. It made no difference in the sight of God whether a
Christian was a circumcised Jew or an uncircumcised Gentile. Both stood
on the same footing. It did make a great difference, though, if the
Gentile Christian became circumcised in order to keep the law
(Galatians 5:2). It is true Paul circumcised Timothy, but it was not to
keep the law. See PNT "Ga 2:3".
But faith which worketh by love. But faith availeth--the faith
in Christ; the faith which uses love as its medium and method of
working. There is first faith in Christ; then the love of Christ.
