The exceeding greatness of his power (to uperballon megeqov thv dunamewv autou). Megeqov is an old word (from megav), but here only in N.T. uperballon, present active participle of uperballw, reappears in Ephesians 2:7; Ephesians 3:19 and seen already in 2 Corinthians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:14. To enlightened eyes the greatness of God's power is even more "surpassing."
