And let our `people' also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

And let our own [people really] learn to apply themselves to good deeds (to honest labor and honorable employment), so that they may be able to meet necessary demands whenever the occasion may require and not be living idle {and} uncultivated {and} unfruitful lives.

and let ours also learn to apply themselves to good works for necessary wants, that they may not be unfruitful.

Our own people should also learn to devote themselves to good works when urgent needs arise, lest they be unproductive.
