Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges {and} confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man {and} has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source];

Darby English Version
Hereby ye know the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesses Jesus Christ come in flesh is of God;

International Standard Version
This is how you can recognize God's Spirit: Every spirit who acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
