I counsel (sumbouleuw). Present active indicative, old compound from sumboulov, counsellor (Romans 11:34), as in John 18:14. Almost ironical in tone.
To buy (agorasai). First aorist active infinitive of agorazw (from agora, market-place), rich as they think themselves to be.
From me (par emou). From my side, emphatic.
Refined by fire (pepurwmenon ek purov). Perfect passive participle of purow (as in Revelation 1:15) and the metaphor carried on by ek purov, "fired by fire." Purity by removing dross (Psalms 66:10) like 1 Peter 1:7.
That thou mayest become rich (ina plouthshv). Purpose clause with ina and the ingressive first aorist active of ploutew, spiritual riches.
That thou mayest clothe thyself (ina peribalh). Purpose clause with ina and second aorist middle (direct) subjunctive of periballw, to fling round one as in Revelation 3:5.
Be not made manifest (mh fanerwqh). Continued purpose clause with negative mh and first aorist passive subjunctive of fanerow.
Nakedness (gumnothtov). Late and rare word from gumnov, naked, in N.T. only here, 2 Corinthians 11:27; Romans 8:35. Cf. Revelation 16:15; Revelation 20:13; 2 Corinthians 5:2 f.
Eye-salve (kollourion). Diminutive of kollura (coarse bread of cylindrical shape), object of agorasai, name for a famous Phrygian powder for the eyes made in Laodicea (Charles), Latin collyrium (used for eye-salve by Horace and Juvenal).
To anoint (egxrisai). First aorist active infinitive (epexegetic) of egxriw, late compound (en, xriw, Strabo, Epictetus), to rub in, here only in N.T.
That thou mayest see (ina blephv). Another purpose clause with ina and the present active subjunctive (keep on seeing).
