Doctrine, Jesus Christ as the Source of
(From Forerunner Commentary)

Psalms 11:4  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

The church becomes scattered when the foundations—the doctrines of our faith—are altered, and confusion is produced because the doctrinal foundation is so badly disturbed. But David is reminding us that the reality is nothing has changed because God is still in charge—and we can have faith in that. He has not changed. Men may attempt to change the doctrines, but God has not changed, nor has His truth or His purpose. We can continue on as before—we are not to turn aside.

John W. Ritenbaugh
Unity (Part 5): Ephesians 4 (B)

1 Corinthians 1:10  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

The members of God's church do not establish their own doctrines. If they did, confusion would result, for each member is at a different level of growth in knowledge and character. God's church is organized, speaking the same thing, unified through the authority God has placed in His ministers. The doctrines of God's church come from God through Jesus Christ through His Word and His inspiration in the men He has chosen to direct His church. Let it be emphasized that the church's purpose is not merely to give salvation to church members—the purpose is to teach and train them to become the instruments God will use to save the vast majority.

Pentecost: Only 'Firstfruits' Now Called!

1 Corinthians 1:10  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

God's Word states that all the members of the body of Christ must "speak the same thing." In other words, there must be no division in what is believed, taught, or preached. God's church should not be divided! Therefore, individual members of the body of Christ today also continue steadfastly in the apostles' doctrines—just as the early New Testament Christians did. The doctrines of God's church came from God through Jesus Christ, who taught the original apostles.

What and Why the Church?

Hebrews 6:1-2  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

The seven doctrines listed in Hebrews 6 are not all the doctrines of the church, but represent a basic understanding of God's truth early in the process of conversion. The first, "go[ing] on to perfection," means pressing on to or striving for spiritual maturity. It is not enough for a Christian to maintain a basic level of understanding—He must grow toward perfection, completion, or maturity in the doctrines of Christ. Part of this process we call "overcoming sin."
