Church at Thyatira
(From Forerunner Commentary)

Revelation 2:23  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

Revelation is written for the time just preceding and including the return of Christ, the Day of the Lord. Unless Thyatira repents, all the churches will see the fruit of her lack of repentance, thus they all must exist at the end to witness Christ's judgment. The message to Thyatira, then, may apply to the historical church, but only in type.

Revelation 2:24  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

Some in Thyatira apparently do not allow themselves to imbibe of Satan's society to the extent that others have, denying the doctrines of Jezebel. That Christ considers these people part of Thyatira implies that they have compromised somewhat, though not to "the depths of Satan" as have others among them.

Revelation 2:25  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

This verse indicates that some of the Thyatira church will be alive on earth in the end time, just prior to Christ's return.

Revelation 2:25  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

There is no sense that they are going to die before He comes. His return is so imminent, He says, "Hold fast till I come."  It is as if He is saying, "You only have a little while to hang on."

Revelation 2:25  (Go to this verse :: Verse pop-up)

One can hold fast only to what one has previously been given. They had been given something in the past.  They had drifted away into a relationship with the world. Idolatry was present in their character. But Christ says, "Hold fast to that which remains"—something that had previously been given—so that they would not drift any further.
